MD-Duke v.2012

This is the biggest game of the year for MD basketball fans, and it’s a date that gets circled as soon as the schedule comes out. For many of the students who are casual basketball fans, this is the only game that they attempt to get tickets for, and it’s an all day event no matter how good MD’s team is. This year’s team is definitely one in a transitional period, experiencing a lot of growth, but still with a long way to go before they really reach their potential. With a new coach, Mark Turgeon and a relatively young roster, the expectations for the team are not very high this year. I think most fans would be satisfied with at least a .500 record at the end of the year.

That being said, I’m more than a casual fan, and having grown up a MD basketball fan pretty much my whole life, I hate Duke more than most. Being able to be on the floor of the court as a photographer for the Diamondback was thus predictably a dream come true. It would have been better with a win, but we lost to a more experienced and more talented team for the most part, and shooting the game was huge enough for me. This was probably the first and last MD-Duke game that I will shoot from the floor, but it’s an experience that not many can say they have had. It was also the night of the unveiling of Gary Williams’ signature on the court and the dedication of the court as Gary Williams Court, so another huge event in MD basketball history. Anyways, here’s a couple photos I like from the game:
